A computer game called EndeavorRx is helping children with ADHD improve their focus and attention. Developed in conjunction with neuroscientists, the app-based game trains children to multitask and ignore distractions by stimulating and improving areas of the brain that play a key role in attention function.
Doctors prescribe the game, and parents receive an activation link to access it. One parent, Kelcey Sihanourath, noticed positive changes in her son's behavior and school performance after he played the game for three months. The game has given her son confidence and success in his academic work.
Fast forward to Dec 24 2023: What to Know About EndeavorRX, the Video Game to Treat ADHD
The FDA has extended its authorization for the video game Endeavor to include kids and teens up to age 17, making it a prescription treatment for ADHD for all kids aged 8 and older. There is also an off-label version for adults. Endeavor is a 25-minute mobile game that aims to improve focus and attention through daily exercises.
Prior to FDA clearance, a trial found that 73% of children reported improved attention using Endeavor. This alternative treatment could be a reasonable next step for individuals struggling to find ADHD treatment, especially considering the ongoing drug shortage.
Does the FDA's extension of authorization for a video game as a treatment for ADHD in children and teens signal a shift towards alternative treatments for attention and focus issues?
