Facebook, now Meta, has argued in court that private messages, pictures, email addresses, and the content of Facebook users' posts are not "sensitive information" as it fights a case over the Cambridge Analytica scandal in Australia.
The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner alleges that over 311,000 Australian users had their data harvested, but Meta disputes this number and denies that any data from users outside the US was given to Cambridge Analytica. Meta also claims that it learned of the potential data misuse in 2015 and took immediate action.
